Product basics
What type of flooring does Lunde sell?
Lunde sells crafted luxury vinyl plank flooring with rigid waterproof core options, attached pad where applicable, matte wear surfaces, and painted bevel details. Product pages list each floor's thickness, wear layer, carton coverage, installation method, and grade rating.
What is a wear layer and why does it matter?
The wear layer is the top protective surface of the plank. It helps protect the floor from everyday traffic, scuffs, and surface wear. Lunde product data currently lists 20 mil wear layer products and commercial-grade wear layer products, depending on the floor.
What thicknesses are available?
Current Lunde product data includes 5 mm, 5.5 mm, and 8 mm products. Check each product page before ordering because thickness can affect transitions, door clearances, and how the floor meets neighboring surfaces.
Does the floor have an attached pad?
Many Lunde products list an attached pad, including 1.5 mm attached IXPE pad on applicable products. Do not assume every product has the same pad. Check the product specifications before installation.
Is the flooring waterproof?
Many Lunde products use a rigid waterproof core or rigid 100% waterproof SPC core. This helps with ordinary topical spills, but it does not mean the floor is protected from flooding, standing water at edges, or moisture coming from underneath the flooring.
Can I buy flooring in more than one batch?
It is best to order enough material for the full connected space at the same time. Flooring made in different production runs can have subtle color, grain, gloss, or texture variation. For connected rooms, order all material together and keep extra attic stock for future repairs.
Will the floor look exactly like the sample or website photo?
Samples and photos are useful for choosing a color family, but they may not show every plank variation. Natural-looking flooring can vary in pattern, tone, and texture. Review samples in your own lighting and blend cartons during installation.
Installation
Should I inspect the flooring before installation?
Yes. Confirm the style, color, quantity, carton condition, and visible product quality before installation begins. Do not install visibly defective material. Save carton labels, order records, site notes, and photos for warranty documentation.
Should the flooring acclimate before installation?
Yes. Lunde's install page already tells customers to inspect, acclimate, moisture test, and then install. Keep cartons indoors in the installation environment and follow the applicable installation guide before work begins.
Can Lunde flooring go over concrete?
Many products can be installed over properly prepared concrete. The slab must be sound, clean, flat, dry, fully cured, and moisture tested. Concrete and wood substrates should be tested and documented before installation.
Can I install over existing flooring?
Some existing hard surfaces may be acceptable if they are secure, flat, clean, and dry. Do not install over carpet or heavily cushioned flooring. Avoid installing over any surface that moves, traps moisture, or prevents the new floor from locking or lying flat.
How flat does the subfloor need to be?
The subfloor must be hard, sound, clean, smooth, flat, and dry. Correct dips, high spots, debris, adhesive residue, and movement before installing. If the subfloor is uneven, the floor can sound hollow, flex, unlock, or fail prematurely.
Do I need expansion space?
Yes. Maintain expansion gaps at walls, columns, door jambs, transitions, and fixed vertical surfaces. Do not pin a floating floor under cabinets or fasten trim through the flooring.
Can I install flooring around existing door jambs?
Yes, but door jambs should be undercut so the plank can slide underneath while keeping the required expansion space. This gives a cleaner finish than cutting tightly around the casing.
Do baseboards need to be removed?
For the cleanest installation, remove and reinstall baseboards or use appropriate trim after the floor is installed. At minimum, the installer must preserve the required expansion space around the room perimeter.
What tools are commonly needed?
Typical plank flooring installation uses a tape measure, spacers, tapping block, rubber mallet, pull bar, utility knife, straightedge, saw for cuts, and an oscillating tool for door jambs. Requirements vary by product and installation method.
Can the flooring be installed on stairs?
Only install on stairs when the correct stair nose, trim, adhesive method, and manufacturer guidance are used. This should be handled carefully because stairs are not the same as a standard floating floor installation.
Can flooring be installed outside?
No. Lunde flooring should be used indoors in dry, climate-controlled spaces. Outdoor installation is not supported by the current warranty language.
Can I install cabinets over a floating floor?
No. Floating floors need room to move. Install cabinets before the flooring, or install flooring around fixed cabinetry while maintaining the required expansion space.
Can flooring be installed near a fireplace?
It depends on the fireplace and heat exposure. Avoid installing floating resilient flooring where direct or sustained heat can exceed product limits. Ask before ordering if the floor will meet a fireplace, stove, or high-heat area.
Can I use extra underlayment?
Do not add extra underlayment unless the specific product installation guide allows it. The updated Lunde warranty page says the floor must be installed without additional underlayment beyond the attached 1.5 mm padding.
Care & maintenance
What cleaner should I use?
Use a damp microfiber mop and a pH-neutral hard-surface cleaner. Plain water is often enough for routine cleaning. Do not use wax, polish, steam mops, mop-and-shine products, or harsh cleaners.
Are steam mops okay?
No. Steam can force heat and moisture into seams and edges. Use a damp microfiber mop instead.
How do I prevent scratches?
Sweep or vacuum regularly with a hard-floor setting, use walk-off mats at entries, and place clean felt pads under furniture legs. Lift heavy furniture instead of dragging it across the floor.
Is the floor scratch proof?
No floor is scratch proof. Lunde floors are built for everyday use, but grit, dragging furniture, sharp objects, pet nails, and poor maintenance can still damage the surface.
What should I do with spills?
Wipe spills promptly. Topical moisture is manageable when cleaned up, but avoid letting water pool at seams, room edges, transitions, cut boards, or under the floor.
Can one damaged plank be replaced?
Often yes, but replacing a plank in the middle of a floor is advanced work. Keep attic stock from the original order so future repairs have the best chance of matching.
Warranty
What does the Lunde warranty cover?
The updated Lunde warranty page describes limited wear and structure coverage for manufacturing defects, including qualifying warping, cracking, delaminating, and wear-through under normal approved use.
How long is the warranty?
The updated Lunde warranty page lists 20-year limited residential coverage for 12, 20, and 30 mil flooring. It also lists 10-year commercial coverage for 20 mil light commercial and 30 mil medium commercial products.
Is labor covered by the warranty?
No. The updated warranty page says approved claims are resolved with new materials of similar grade for repair or replacement of affected areas. Removal, reinstallation, labor, and incidental expenses are not covered.
What is not covered?
The warranty does not cover scratches, dents, gloss loss, ordinary wear, improper installation, extra underlayment, misuse, subfloor moisture, hydrostatic pressure, flooding, inappropriate locations, or color variation between samples, photos, replacement material, and installed product.
What records should I keep for a warranty claim?
Keep the sales order, receipt, carton labels, product details, purchase date, installation notes, site-condition records, and photos. Report visible defects before installation.
Shipping & ordering
How is flooring delivered?
Flooring orders ship by freight or may be prepared for warehouse pickup. Freight carriers deliver curbside or to the driveway. Inspect the shipment and note visible pallet or carton damage before signing.
How much does delivery cost?
Delivery is priced by straight-line distance from Bakersfield: free within 10 miles, then $150 (10–30 mi), $200 (30–50 mi), $250 (50–80 mi), and $310 (80–100 mi). Beyond 100 miles, choose warehouse pickup or contact us for a freight quote.
What if my street is hard for a freight truck?
Contact Lunde before delivery if the address is rural, gated, in an HOA, under construction, narrow, steep, or difficult for a large truck to access. Delivery planning should happen before installation labor is scheduled.
How should I store the cartons before installation?
Store flooring flat, indoors, and away from standing water, direct job-site damage, and debris. Keep cartons protected until installation.
Can I return flooring?
Contact Lunde first. Do not ship product back without approval. Installed, opened, special-order, or damaged-after-delivery material may not be returnable.
Why does the cart round up quantities?
Flooring is sold by full carton. The site converts room square footage into carton quantities so the space is covered.
How much extra material should I buy?
Plan extra material for cuts, layout, closets, mistakes, and future repairs. Complex rooms, diagonal layouts, stairs, and connected spaces usually need a larger waste allowance.
Can I get samples first?
Yes. Request samples or an in-person consultation with Trisha and she’ll help you compare colors and texture in your own light before you order full cartons.
